Three years later…

Diana had wasted no time selling her house in London, and the manor house in Kent. There was no longer any need to live on her late husband’s properties, but she would always remember him. As the London season came around for the third time in their marriage, they celebrated Francis’ birthday with a large gathering for dinner.

Around the table were his sister, Sarah, and her newly intended. They’d also invited Henrietta, her husband, and her two children, along with her sister, Celeste, who also had a young child with her husband, Arthur. The older guests consisted of Diana’s father, Henrietta’s parents, and a few other close friends of his family.

The dining room was a buzz with activity. The youngsters ran around the table, and joining them was their son, James. He was nearly two years of age and played the chasing game with a giddiness that delighted Francis as he watched him. The adult guests all appeared relaxed, knowing that this was a happy household. Francis and Diana preferred no formalities when it came to their family celebrations.

Francis stood up and clinked a spoon on his glass. The effect was to hush the adults seated around the table, and in turn that was warning enough for the children to stop their game.

“I will not waste too much time with a birthday speech. Though, being in my mid-thirties, I thought I had better show some responsibility. And so, I wish to thank you all for sharing this evening with my family,” he began.

All eyes were now upon him, with the exception of whispering children who were keen to get back to their game of chasing around the table.

“This gathering gives me the opportunity to thank my wife too. She knows how to organise a wonderful meal. But she is also heavenly for putting up with me, and she does so with the greatest of patience,” he said, lifting his glass. “Thank you, my sweet Diana, for loving me as you do. You make me the happiest man alive.”

Diana stood up from her dining room seat and went to stand by her husband, hooking his arm and sharing a soft peck on his cheek. In no time, the children had returned to their game and the noise erupted back to how it was at the point of pre-speech.

The evening passed them all by and, as Diana went to put her son to bed in the nursery, Francis enjoyed a last nightcap with her father in one of the parlours. Half an hour later, Francis entered his bedroom to find his wife already in their bed and waiting for him.

“Is that a good book that you are reading?” he asked her as he began to undress.

“It is a romance, husband,” Diana replied as she closed the book and placed it on her bedside table. “The setting is in the bleak heathlands of the north, and it is a most tragic love story.”

“Well now, there I can oblige,” Francis said as he climbed beneath the blankets to take his wife in a warm embrace. “Because I can give you a romance that has the happiest of endings.”

“Hmmm…well I can beat your happy ending with even happier news,” she said, looking up into his eyes as they enjoyed a warm kiss.

“Oh…I fail to see how you can top the happy romance that I share with my wife,” he said, staring into her glimmering, green eyes. “But I can see that you bursting to tell me something, so out with it, my sweet Diana.”

“I have one final birthday surprise to share with you,” she began, giving him a wide grin as she stared back at him. “Can you guess what it is?”

“Erm…you have planned a holiday abroad, or…no…I have a strong stallion waiting for me in the stables…or—”

Diana placed a slender finger over his lips to hush him. “No, silly, we have no room in this household for any more strong stallions, not when I have you.” She chuckled. “But what we do have room for is a second child,” she said, watching him closely for his reaction.

“Now that, my beautiful Diana, is the best of birthday presents,” he replied, giving her a gentle squeeze and kissing her forehead. “You have kept that a quiet secret, and I have now just become even more content. Perhaps we shall have a little girl who is exactly like her beautiful mother.”

“Only time will tell, my love,” Diana replied as their lips came together with a longer kiss. A kiss that shared their love, and a kiss that soon led to a more passionate embrace. Francis cupped his wife’s breast and caressed her sensitive bud, which was now stiff with desire.

“Making love is one of most favourite of birthday gifts too,” Francis muttered in her ear.

Diana whimpered as his hand wandered down to the warmth between her legs. Gently, he opened her thighs and was soon on top of the woman he loved, entering her wetness with his solid manhood.

“I cannot help myself,” he muttered as they began to move in a mutual rhythm. “I cannot resist my wife. It is a weakness of mine,” he admitted as he thrust his shaft deep between her legs.

“I do not know who your wife is, my Lord, but you can have me instead,” Diana said as she writhed beneath him.

“Oh…you are a naughty, naughty minx,” he replied, jabbing her hard as they moved in sync with a faster beat.

“For my birthday…” Francis panted, knowing that his peak was almost upon him. “I want this naked woman beneath me, with her legs wide open and…ahhhh!”

Diana called out too, and together they beat the harmony of their climatic ending. Their orgasms were in sync as the two lovers now shared everything together in their lives.

THE END

  1. Overall the story was a much loved happening. Seemed to go around a bit before culminating in a true love story. Extended epilogue was a nice ending for the couple.

  2. WHAT CAN I SAY WELL I CAN START WITH – WOW WOW WOW
I LOVED IT LOVED EACH AND EVERY CHARACTER .
    BRILLIANT STORY READ IT .

  3. I loved the emotions this book took me through. Oh my! I laughed until tears came during the scene of Diana falling from the apple tree, hearing her curse and then having Francis tangled in the bag and his attempts to get up caused me to think of how humiliated they must have been yet they handled it so well. Then tears rolled when he did not return and she was forced to marry Lord Henry. I smiled to hear she had been content in the marriage but my emotions ran all over the place from that point until they settled on happy contentment at the end of the epilogue. Thank you, Lucy Langton, for a book that gives so much enjoyment in reading it, makes one feel as though they actually know the characters, and moves ones emotions but leaves them feeling peacefully happy.

  4. Beautiful story wonderful characters. Well written. So pleased that they both got their HEA. Such strong women

  5. Lovely romance with a happy ending for everyone. However, the nasty nephew deserved a more severe punishment for blackmail and attempted rape.

  6. I loved this story and all the characters. I am glad that Francis and Diana finally got it together! Took long enough, but people Celeste had something to do with it, getting married to Athur, leaving Francis free to do his thing.. Well done. More please.
